Self-educated vs Traditional educated

And why one is better than other by miles

I recently quit college in the last semester.

That's 4 and a half years down the drain.

Everyone close to me asked me to go through it.

It's just 6 exams.

Deal with it.

Get your degree.

And then do whatever you want to do in your life.

But I've tasted the blood of freelancing and digital entrepreneurship.

I would never fit in that 9 to 5 box.

No hate to anyone doing that, but it's not for me.

Most of my consultation clients are people with 9 to 5 jobs, but they're trying to quit it by building a personal brand.

That’s not a good sign IMO.

I, on the other hand, want to travel the world with my laptop bag and a red stroller that Mum gifted me.

And I've started this journey by booking a lovely room over the cliffs for the next 60 days.

So expect a few aesthetic shots of mountains and books on my Twitter timeline.

Here is the first of many!

Now let's circle back to why I didn't want to go through my college.

You see, in the past 1 year, my life has completely changed.

I went from being a broke college kid to providing financial support to my family.

And it all happened because of one thing:

Self Education

Trust me, I still sometimes can't imagine the stage I'm in my life right now.

Just 12 months of disciplined, focused and strategic approach have put me 10+ years that my peers will be (if they are lucky).

So I decided to do a deep dive into – what if I only focused on self-education for 10 years?

And I was not disappointed when I found that most people nowadays, very intelligent people, are not opting for college.

I even found smart people like Henry Ford and Abraham Lincoln in history. etc., were self-educated.

The rise of online learning is at an all-time high.

It’s never been easier to learn a skill with just an internet connection and a laptop.

A study showed that the industry is worth $325 Billion and, by 2030, will be worth $850 Billion.

Just think of the potential of the creator industry.

If you’re active on Twitter, you must have noticed creators are making 6 figure money with educational courses.

And with the rise of AI, a personal brand is a must for everyone.

You see, AI is estimated to replace 300 Million jobs in the next decade.

Of course, that's only one side of the coin.

There will be a lot more job opportunities that will be created.

So is self-education for you?

Well, if my journey from being a nobody to a 5 figure ghostwriter didn't affect you, let me paint you a dead-simple comparison:

  1. Information upgrade

The data in this old-age college institution upgrades at an extremely slow pace.

Whereas in the current scenario, educational courses are changing rapidly every day.

If you're watching the news, there's always a kid on TikTok who's going viral and making life-changing money in 24 hours.

These things will never reach inside the courses of the college.

Even if they did, they would become obsolete by then.

  1. Flexibility and personalization

Self-education allows you to tailor-fit your interest.

If you want to learn marketing, SEO and habits - a unique combo that would never fit in the straight jacket formula of college education.

But with self-education, you can easily do so.

  1. Cost-effective and time-saving

It would've cost me $80k-$100k if I had learned entrepreneurship and marketing from a top college.

But instead, I have driven $75k for myself and my clients in 1 year.

Without ever paying a single penny but only my time.

Not to mention that ability to learn from a laptop in your pajamas is a god-like feeling.

  1. Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Self-education inspires you to develop an entrepreneurial sense.

You analyze what skills you need to build next to unlock the next level.

You're constantly adapting.

There is plenty of successful self-taught entrepreneurs like Elon and Mark Zuckerberg to inspire you.

I wouldn't go far as saying traditional education has no value.

But self-education does present a gigantic case point.

It gives you the freedom to work for yourself.

To build a personal brand.

To create your online business.

If you're new and have no idea what you should be learning to make it as a digital entrepreneur, start with these skills :

• Writing

• Marketing

• Audience Building

These are 3 core pillars you need to master to make money online.

One of the most successful investor worlds has ever seen - Charlie Munger, who was self-taught, said:

I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent. But they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were that morning.

Charlie Munger

A simple framework that I often use to find what I should be learning next and then break it down to the most fundamental.

Is it a knowledge problem? I need to read more books

Is it an action problem? I need to apply my learnings

Is it a consistency problem? I need to fix my habits
